I'm Feeling Very Mortgage Inadequate

Right now I'm feeling very inadequate. You know! It's that feeling you get when you've just let someone down. As Mortgage Professionals we have all experienced it. I just couldn't help. Here's the whole agonizing story from the very beginning...

Last Summer, Canadian Kyle MacDonald, an unemployed writer, set off on a quest to turn one red paper clip into a house, by swapping it for items that were bigger or better.

Based on a game called Bigger and Better (I don't remember that one when I was a kid) that he played as a child, MacDonald decided he would use his creativity and the power of the internet to trade up from one item to another, starting only with one red paperclip, to ultimately trade for his goal...a house.

MacDonald set up a web blog to trade his one red paperclip on July 12th, 2005 and he made his first trade for a pen (in the shape of a fish) on July 14.Well, it took Kyle 14 internet trades, and exactly one year to move from the red paper clip to a house on Main Street in the tiny town of Kipling in Saskatchewan province, Canada - a place he has never been to before.

Kyle's initial trade swapped the paperclip for a pen in Vancouver, the pen became a doorknob, which was traded for a portable barbecue, then swapped for a generator, to become a full beer keg and neon Budweiser sign in New York. A snowmobile followed which was then traded for a trip to Yahn in the Canadian Rockies? He swapped that for a 1995 Ford Van which was then traded for a recording contract which became one year rent-free in Phoenix. An afternoon with Alice Cooper followed, then a snow globe, a Hollywood movie role in Donna on Demand for a two-storey, three-bedroom, 1920s farmhouse on the town's Main Street in rural Kipling.

Kyle's new home community, which is named after the famed British author and poet Rudyard Kipling and is home to New York Times list award-winning romance novelist Mary Balogh, seems like the ideal place to crank out his life's story, which is scheduled to hit store shelves next summer. He successfully parlayed this whole adventure into a book deal with Random House and a movie deal with DreamWorks.

You can go to Google maps and key in the address: 530 Main Street, Kipling Saskatchewan to view the property.

His book, to be published in four different languages, will contain new material about his bartering experience. He said he was approached by about 40 book publishers and 50 production companies who were interested in his story.

Again, I feel terrible that as a Mortgage Professional, I couldn't help Kyle secure a home mortgage. Of course, being unemployed didn't help much. To tell the truth, I really don't originate mortgages in Canada. Plus, all of my lenders had already reached their quota and all of their free mortgages had already been allocated.

Congratulations Kyle MacDonald on a job well done. Quite a return on investment...one red paperclip for a house. Only in America...well actually, North America!

Home Dcor Shabby Chic Decorating is Easy and Fun!

Do you want an easy and fun decorating style to use in your home? Shabby chic decorating is the decorating style for you! Shabby chic decorating uses vintage decor as well as new dcor that looks old. The end result is a delightfully decorated room that features a comfortable, lived-in look. Shabby chic decorating ideas include:

Use family heirlooms and collectibles in your shabby chic rooms. Their sentimental value and ageless beauty will be enjoyed not only by you but also by your family and guests. They also make great conversation pieces.

If you have a limited decorating budget, shabby chic decorating is a perfect solution. Flea markets, garage sales, and friends attics and basements are ideal places to scour for shabby chic home dcor and furniture. Look for unique, distinctive pieces of furniture and home dcor that provide a special touch to any room.

A coat of paint makes old pieces of furniture ideal additions to shabby chic decorating. Older upholstered furniture can be updated by using slip covers or large throws. If you have a few pieces of nice furniture, highlight them by building around them. They will look like real treasures surrounded by shabby chic home dcor accents.

Vintage lace is a wonderful addition to the shabby chic decorating style. You can buy lace even if it is stark white and give it the illusion of being old by staining it with tea. Try a test piece first to get the desired shade. Lace that is cotton or at least partly cotton takes the tea stain well; however, polyester or nylon lace may not work as well.

Other characteristics of shabby chic decorating are distressed finishes, soft as well as delicate colors, mixing checks, stripes, and floral fabrics, using a rumpled but neat look, and using home dcor that is worn but also elegant.

The shabby chic decorating style draws on the time period from 1900-1950. Keeping that in mind will help make shabby chic decorating easier and much more fun!

I Won The Lottery! Or, Maybe Not

I must be the luckiest person alive. In the past three days I found out I won 1.5 Million Euros in the UK lottery, One Million Euros in the Winx International Lottery, 1.5 Million Euros in the 2007 E-Mail Lottery, and 500,000 Pounds in an e-mail lottery held by the Coca Cola Company. Wow! What did I do to receive all these riches?

The sad truth is there are actually people who fall for these schemes. For the promise of a quick buck (or million Euros as the case may be) people will turn over their bank account numbers, wire money in the hopes of getting more back, or give other information that could lead to identity theft.

These lottery and sweepstakes schemes have gone on long before the internet, with one of the oldest being the phony sweepstakes which required an entrance fee to claim your prize, which amounted to more than the prize was worth. Another variation of that scheme was requiring the potential winner to call a certain number to find out if he or she was a winner. The phone call cost the potential winner a certain amount per minute with an unusually-long wait time on hold. The real winner was the scamming company which made money off the phone calls.

Todays thieves have a wide choice of scam-delivery mechanisms, including in person, the mail, phone and internet. However, the same holds true no matter how the scam is delivered: if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

How Can You Recognize the Lottery or Sweepstakes Scam?

There are certainly legitimate lotteries and sweepstakes offers. Who hasnt bought a state or multi-state lottery ticket from their local lottery retailer? Or, who hasnt seen one of those sweepstakes offered by a recognized company advertising in the coupon section of the Sunday newspaper? You fill out the entry form or reasonable facsimile (usually a 3x5 card) with your name and address and send it off.

Therein is your biggest clue as to whether youre the victim of a scam. In a legitimate lottery or sweepstakes you have bought the ticket or entered your name and address. In a scam lottery or sweepstakes you are notified youve won when you havent even entered or bought a ticket.

In addition, its illegal to use the mail or telephone to play lotteries across borders, whether national or state lines. Any lottery offer involving the purchase of lottery tickets for other state or country lotteries could end up with you being charged with illegal activities.

One ploy used by foreign scammers involving lotteries or sweepstakes is offering you an advance on your winnings. The scam artist will send you a check for part of your winnings. All you have to do is wire them payment for taxes or other official purposes. By the time you find out their check has bounced the money you wired is in their hands. And, because it was wired its harder to trace.

Lottery scammers dont always use e-mail or the phone. Sometimes they do their dirty work in person. A typical scam would go something like this: You are approached in person by someone who claims he or she just won the lottery but isnt eligible to claim it. They offer to split the money with you if you claim the prize. Sounds good, right? Except that before you claim the prize from the lottery retailer you are required to withdraw some money from your account and give it to the ticket holder as a good-faith gesture. By the time you find out youre holding a non-winning lottery ticket, the thief is long-gone with your good-faith money.

In order to protect yourself from these scams, its important to remember the following:

Lotteries

Its illegal to use the mail or telephone to play lotteries across borders.

If you ever receive a phone call, letter or e-mail announcing you just won a lottery, its a scam.

Sweepstakes

Its illegal for a company to require you to pay to win or claim a sweepstakes prize.

Its illegal for a company to suggest that buying something will improve your chances of winning.

Companies cannot ask for money from you for taxes they say you owe on a sweepstakes winning.

Be cautious when entering sweepstakes from displays you see in malls often times these are people just wanting your name and address for a future sweepstakes scam.

Only enter sweepstakes from recognizable companies, and never pay a fee to enter.

Avoiding being the victim of a scam takes a healthy dose of skepticism. If you are ever unsure about the legitimacy of an offer made to you, you can call the National Fraud Information Centers Hotline at 1-800-876-7060.

10 Easy Ideas To Attract Client Like Crazy - Online

Youve got products. Youve got a website. Youve even got some traffic (hey, even a little traffic is some!) Now comes the clincher for any business. To make money, you need to entice online visitors to buy your stuff.

How can you do this? Well, you cant grab hold of their hands and make them click the Buy Now button. But you can do specific things that may help them decide to click on it themselves.

In my line of work as a client attraction marketing coach to small businesses, Ive seen many business owners who consistently let visitors click off to web wonderland rather than convincing guests to buy their wares. These businesses may have products or services that are just as good or better than their competitors, but theyre missing out on some key information about how to convert page views into sales.

Relationship-Building: The Missing Link to Online Money-Making

To understand how your visitors online experience can lead them down the buying path, first become your visitor. What convinces you to buy things from other websites? Being human, most of us are more eager to buy from companies or people whom we feel we like, know, and trust.

An online customer cant look you in the eye, shake your hand, and think, Hey, I like, know, and trust this person! The good news is that by taking shrewd advantage of the the multimedia nature of the internet and the power of good writing, you can give your visitors the experience of having a positive, personal relationship with you.

Here are some tips for boosting your personal relationship with customers to help them feel an intimate connection that makes them more likely to buy from you.

Before I share the tips. I ask that you make an intention. Intend to use tips that reach you. You are reading this article for a reason.

Ten Relationship-Building Tips

1. Show

Post photos of your employees and your workplace. This helps visitors feel more like they know you.

2. Tell

Add audio clips of you speaking about your products or services. Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) tells us that many of us learn with our ears as well as our eyes -- dont miss out on this additional way to connect.

3. Educate

We all like learning new things. Help customers like you more by providing them with useful articles.

4. Share

Showcase your generosity by providing visitors with other peoples articles and links to pertinent websites.

5. Care

Ask for feedback and comments. This helps customers know that youre in the business of serving them and that you take their opinions seriously.

6. Clarify

Define any confusing terms in your copy. Let them know exactly what you want them to do for you. People like to follow clear instructions. When people feel comfortable with their online experience, theyre more willing to purchase.

7. Be an Expert

Don't let people choose between you and your competitors. Let them know that youre the only one who can help them. Write articles, create presentations, and demonstrate your expertise.

8. Be Genuine

When writing website copy, direct your message to one person who represents your target audience. Personalize your marketing emails by using peoples first names and other personal information.

9. Relate

Convince your target audience that you know and understand their problems by sharing stories and specific examples.

10. Stay in Touch

Don't let prospective customers slip away. Make every effort to get them to give you their first name and email address by offering them a free ebook or report. Stay in touch with prospective customers by sending them a regular e-newsletter with useful tips and friendly updates about your company.

Case Study: Tracys Picks

One of my clients, Tracy Jones, sought out my coaching services to help her brand and market a new program in Austin called Tracys Picks. Tracys company helps restaurants serve portion-controlled meals to their customers and educates customers on the benefits of purchasing these meals.

Like many small businesses, Tracy had a website that wasnt taking full advantage of the internets potential to help customers know, like, and trust her business. Its a good, clean website, but it needed to be tweaked to help customers really feel a connection to Tracy and her business.

I recommended that Tracy:

1. Change her photo to a more intimate shot that would help customers feel a greater sense of closeness with her.

2. Move her opt-in box higher up on the page to encourage more visitors to sign up for her newsletter.

3. Add a picture of the free ebook that people receive when they sign up for her newsletter.

4. Post a blog, which serves the dual purpose of providing fresh content for search engines and helps people learn about a company in a more personal way.

5. Provide articles and outgoing pertinent links.

Your Homework

As a client attraction marketing coach, I cant leave you without assigning some homework to help your rev-up your site up to its full relationship-building potential.

Go to your website now and take a good look at it. Go on, Ill wait.

Now ask yourself:, If I were a new visitor to this site, would I feel that I know, like, and trust this business? What could be added or changed to make my experience with this business feel more personal and inviting? (Hint: re-read my Ten Relationship-Building Tips above).

Write down what you as a prospective customer would like to see that could help you make a decision to purchase your websites products. When I say write, I mean write. Get out a piece of paper and pen and jot down your ideas.

Now make a commitment to implement these ideas on your site.

Presto, youve just increased your potential visitor-to-buyer conversion rate. And youve done it without paying a penny in advertising or pay-per-click fees.

It just goes to show that a personal touch still goes a long way, even across the wires.

How To Build An Opt-in List & Reduce Costs Using PPC

The inconvenience of building an opt-in mailing list using PPC (pay per click) search engines, is the cost connected to it. The following technique can reduce and even neutralize these costs and at the same time quickly build an email list for your chosen niche market.

Many internet marketers stress the importance of having your own mailing list, as this is where a more important stream of income may come from, within your online business. However, when entering a new niche market the challenge is often to build the new list quickly from start.

Getting free search engine traffic may take months and a lot of optimization & link building work, before seeing any results. One solution is to use PPC search engines which delivers instant traffic to your website and opt-in form. But how do we get rid of some of the costs a pay per click solution involves?

First, an opt-in mailing list is an email list a visitor choose to sign up to when visiting a web page, to get information delivered to their email box. They also usually have to confirm this subscription by doing a one-click confirmation in the sign-up email sent to them, before the information is delivered. This is to protect the visitor from getting unwanted information. At this point they have approved the subscription and is on the opt-in mailing list.

In this technique i'm going to show you, one has to think long term ROI (return of investment) as this method is just meant to reduce or erase the inital cost of getting a subscriber to your list. The real, long term value after that, is the opportunity to follow up your subscribers with useful, free information and at times offering them products, services, reviews etc., which he or she may be interested in.

If you do it right, you can end up with total sales income from your list, greater than the total subscriber cost, thus getting you on the profitable side. As the targeted subscriber list grows, the more income you can expect from it.

A subscriber which is given valuable free information over time, will be far more open to trust and buy from you, when offered products and services as well. An example is one of my niche websites, targeted to the stock market, which as of this writing has grown to 1100 opt-in subscribers and is a consistent source of income through affiliate links integrated into free stock market market updates, delivered via email. The value of these free market updates also ensure low unsubscription rates.

Just one simple day trading software banner, which shows up at the end of every update, has alone generated enough income to more than cover my monthly electricity expenses. In addition comes ebook sales and more. It's not a huge revenue but is just one income stream among several others, which added together gives good extra income besides a regular day job. If a regular guy like me (educated as a car mechanic) can build an online income, so can you. The key is to continue building websites and opt-in lists in profitable niche markets, until a full income goal is reached.

This PPC cost reducing method may help to increase profit margins even more:

On your domain, create a simple "landing page" with an opt-in form, which is presented to the targeted visitor when they click on a PPC ad. Focus on the benefits of subscribing to your free email list, what's in it for them. By offering them bonuses like a free report, ebook, ecourse, tool, etc., a higher subscription rate could be the result.

At the top, center of the page, code in a Google Adsense ad in the 728x90 format. For more information on how Adsense can generate an income for you, do a Google search for "Adsense" and you will find plenty of suggestions and tutorials.

Remove any Adsense ad border, change general ad colors to blend in with the color of your page. Black ad text against a white background page is the best. Change URL colors within the ad to the blue URL color you often see on many web pages. An example of this preferrable ad format and configuration, is available on the niche stock market website i mentioned above: http://oextradingresources.com

Now, to the main point, what this Adsense ad will do for you is to put money in your Adsense account, whenever a visitor clicks on one of the ads. The same visitor may also sign up for your opt-in newsletter. On the other hand, a visitor may click on an ad but leave your website without signing up to your newsletter. Of course, a visitor may also leave without any actions at all.

In the list building process, this combination of Adsense income and an opt-in form on the same page, can overall help reduce or even neutralize the cost of getting targeted visitors from pay per click search engines, into your newsletter.

Income from Adsense can vary from a few cents up to dollars per click, depending on your target market. To give a clue and a perspective on how valuable Adsense can be for you, there are many people out there making a good living from Adsense based websites alone, even without running any newsletters. But in my opinion, having a mailing list to promote to, is after all a reliable way compared to any unpredictable changes in external programs.

Google Dreams If I Were the President and CEO of Google

To those who turn on their computers once a day to collect a few e-mails, Google is only a name that shows up a lot around the web. For the cyber crowd Google is a burgeoning, complex, impersonal entity that spells success or doom in a heartbeat. It is Caesar at the Coliseum with thumbs up or down.

Google is neither bad nor good it is only a vehicle and for the most part it does what it is supposed to do very well. To the average Joe it is a darned good search engine. To webmasters, online business enterprises and the like it is a morphing complex and ever changing behemoth whose every move must be carefully tracked studied and considered before making any decision to do with online commerce or any major form of web communications.

SEO (search engine optimization) has become the single most important body of knowledge in the cyber world, maybe even the whole world! This is the science of website promotion. The most basic elements are search engine rankings, keywords and advertising. Yahoo, MSN, and other search engines require pretty much the same things as Google in order to be successful but Google is the undisputed champ at the moment.

Google cannot be faulted for running its business like a business but as with so many other giants of industry the human element starts to disappear in almost equal and direct proportion to its own grandiosity.

More then ever warnings are trumpeted about the fatal errors involved in not following the Google guidelines for optimization. The wrong keywords, the wrong number of links, the wrong kind of tags and other elements of website promotion can spell sudden death to any site.

As a writer I have run up against a few of Googles potential shoot me downs. To my chagrin it is a software program that decides my fate and not a real person.

I publish articles all over the internet and by checking sites and data bases that host my articles I can ascertain that about two or three hundred thousand people have read my work and it is increasing daily. I gleefully submitted articles to any decent article base I could find. I always kept in mind that it was the message I was writing that was important to get out to as many people as possible. After all it is those people that are most important of all, I reasoned.

Now if my articles show up in too many places I can get the search engine axe. I cant deny that getting the articles out was always my primary goal. I have no product to sell and Im not hoping for fame but I still have to watch my step. I can readily understand that there are thousands of outfits that are driven by greed or malice and would ride on the backs of the search engines to any place they could. But I doubt that a robot or software program knows the difference between me and them.

I have often pondered what I would do about all this if I were the CEO of Google. The answer always seemed obvious. I wouldnt change the entire direction of Google but I would add something to insure that it could not lose its human element. I would create a department not as a mere appendage but as full blown arm of the company.

My department would be constantly searching for websites that show remarkable qualities. Sites with exceptionality would be chosen and become part of a feature known as Googles Choice. Great web design would be on the list but not limited to that. Real humans would search for not so great designs but with obvious fledgling intuitiveness and our department would offer and provide help to those sites to bring them up to the highest levels.

The department would seek out sites with important content. Sites that contribute to the entire web experience, to their particular area of concern or perhaps to the nation or the entire world at large.

No one would need to apply but rather we would apply ourselves to searching out and approaching these sites. We would develop them, contribute to them and promote them. Their success would be our reward and no more as long as their success was beneficial in some way to the entire web community.

Some mistakes would be made and it would require a willingness to experiment a bit but the rewards would be so great. The bad rap the internet gets now with all the porn and trash might at least be offset by such a truly humanitarian endeavor.

One of the most wildly successful books of the decade has been Rick Warrens, The Purpose Driven Life. It has been said that this book is not the most important book of the decade but behind it was promotional machinery that could have been equally as successful with a book about raising hogs. Just for the shear heck of it our new department would try to simulate this kind of success. Maybe we could take Marthas little home and family pics site and turn it into the most marvelous internet gallery online. Why climb that mountain, to borrow a phrase, because it is there.

The present internet legacy is a draw between a good international business platform and a river of scams, schemes and scum. The bottom line is that it would help an internet giant to make the internet itself a giant contributor to the world at large. If I were the CEO of Google the new Googles Choice would be the first order of business for me.

Affiliate Marketing Getting Traffic For Free

An Affiliate is an individual who markets other peoples products on the internet for a commission on the individual sale. Thousands of people do this because they can start making money almost immediately without the expense and time needed to produce a product themselves. Having a website is not necessary and there is no interaction with your potential customers beyond getting them to the sales page.

Getting involved in affiliate marketing is a great opportunity to make a lot of money on the Internet, but one should not go into it blindly. As an affiliate you must invest some time in research, this is absolutely necessary. Know what products you want to promote, how much you will make on each sale and the return rate of the product. If possible its a good idea to buy or request a sample so you know the product inside and out.

As a first time affiliate its a good idea to start with reasonably priced products making at least 50% commission. The most critical part of affiliate marketing is of course marketing. The issue of traffic is one of the most central and fundamental issues in making any money online. You can separate your marketing campaign into two distinct groups, paid and non-paid. Free marketing can be quite effective if you know how its done. Here is a list of the most popular methods for getting traffic for free.

Article marketing A great way to increase your ranking with search engines and direct targeted traffic to your sites. You should write about what you know. If you do not have more information on your topic than does the average reader you should probably choose another topic. Write your article in a conversational tone so that its easy to read. Dont make your article too long, remember its an article youre writing not a book. A length of 450-750 words should be ideal. Your article should be informative and about your website topic. If its just useless information your readers will expect the same from your website.

Blogging Writing a blog is also a good way to drive traffic to your site and increase your search engine rankings. Blogs were originally used as online diaries but have recently taken on a business dimension. Your blog should be focused on your particular niche. You should have several blogs with different providers and include your links in your blogs and profile. This is a good technique for increasing traffic and search engine rankings.

Forums Participating in forum discussions is another great way to meet people and get your URL out there on every post you make. You should join forums related to the niche you are targeting or the product you are selling. When you sign up for a forum you have the option of adding a signature. This signature will show up at the bottom of every post you make in the forum and should be used to promote your website links and products. Whenever you make posts you will then be creating links back to your site, while attracting the attention of the forum readers.

Social Bookmarking This is a valuable and reliable way to get traffic and backlinks to your site. There are many social bookmarking sites such as Furl and del.icio.us. These sites allow you to share your bookmarks along with a description with the public hence the term social bookmarking. The main purpose is to put your links in front of people who would hopefully also bookmark your site giving you more backlinks.

MySpace MySpace is one of the largest online communities with over 100 million members. It is a great place for networking with other people who hold the same interests and marketing. Another great benefit of MySpace is that it has dozens of different forums and groups related to specific niches. Be sparing with your use of music bites, videos and other media clips, you should create an attractive profile that is easy to load. Forget the animation and other bells and whistles, make it easy to navigate your profile and organize your information logically. Color schemes are important, use colors that enhance the look of your text and images not draw attention away from them. You should also use a recent photo as you are now. For help on designing a MySpace profile consult the tutorials on the site.

Getting Your Online Money Making Business Started

For the absolute novice the foray into creating a money making online business can be quite daunting. Most don't know where to start let alone know what to do or how to do it. The one common theme, no matter what their circumstance, is "I want to make money!"

The key to having an online money making business is a change of mindset from employee to business owner or entrepreneur.

The employee clocks in every day, does the required tasks, clocks out again and spends their pay check; sometimes years in advance if they have accumulated credit debt.

The business owner however takes a wider view. He or she has a business plan, sets goals and initiates strategies to achieve them. The business owner forecasts their income in advance.

One of the first things to do, to avoid information overload, is to sit down with pencil and paper and plan your business.

Begin by defining what sort of business you want:

1. Physical products

This could be based on something as simple as your favourite craft or hobby. My teenage daughter, for example, loves making her own jewellery; so much so that our home is literally littered with her "creations". Therefore I built a website for her to sell it.

2. Electronic Products

If "making" a physical product to sell seems like too much work, how about creating a "How To" ebook about all you know on your favourite hobby, craft or area of expertise. Electronic products are very popular with those who want information but don't have the time to do all the research. Gather all your knowledge up in one package and sell your efforts again and again and again.

3. Affiliate Program Products

If you are really stuck for an idea of a product to sell, affiliate marketing is a good place to start. Affiliate marketing is selling someone else's product for a percentage of the sale. The secret to this kind of business is find products that you really love; it will be easier to succeed if your heart and soul is in your business.

There's no reason why you can't do all three - eventually - but for a start choose just one. Once you have decided, plan out ways to implement this new business. Break the plan into smaller, easy to achieve tasks. For each stage of implementing your money making business work on bite size pieces.

For example: "I need a website" can be refined into:

- Registering a Domain Name
- Find a web host
- Find an Auto-responder service
- Find a web designer or for the do-it-your-selfer, lessons on website building
- Find a payment processor

A certain amount of single-mindedness is required as it is easy to become distracted. You might find ideas popping into your head as you are working away. Great! Write them down in your ideas vault and get back to business. They can always be developed later when you have finished the task at hand

All good business owners work within time-frames. Use this to measure your effectiveness and productivity. Schedule time for your tasks, set a completion date, review your progress, and then adapt to make improvements.

While overseeing your business as a whole and focusing on the tasks required, your online money making business will take form and you'll find you will make money.

Nearing the Scond Half of Life

To be married and have a family of my own was my ultimate dream. I was not built for a killer job in the corporate arena, although I have had a career that could have proved promising years before the wedding bells tolled.

At that time, having my own family will complete the meaning and purpose of my life. It was a mission that I needed to achieve. I knew in my heart, its all I wanted. I prayed hard. And God granted it.

After 22 years, two fine grown up kids, and basically a stable married life, I now wonder what else is there to do.

Accomplished? It seems that is where my confusion begins. I look around me and I see things and remember hobbies that once occupied my time with fervor. With more time in my hands now I feel a bit useless, rusting and old.

This is a scary feeling and an unproductive state of mind. I know I need to do something about this lull. All of a sudden I feel I have not done what I should have.

As I see a huge boulder with an emblazoned 5-0 rolling closer, I look back and wonder why I am feeling a bit lost. I am searching for something that would redeem my strong sense of self worth.

Even after reaching the edge of my little dreams, today, I see threats from specters of regrets, doubts and anxieties not only for what has been but for what is yet to come.

Its like trekking a path towards my last race. There is a strong urge to take different although difficult turns with repeated deep sighs.

What do you meanthe horizon is no longer too far away to see? Ah, but tomorrow has always seemed such an important word to us, and such a long one. Then we learn the truth. Linda Ellerbee, Reflections on Midlife.

But what exactly am I wishing for now, I dont know. I seem to be even more confused, restrained and afraid on my passage in this crossroad. No room for mistakes, I pound

Until Ive read more materials on other peoples experiences bearing similarities, my quiet insanity could be part of the Midlife phase.

What exactly is Midlife Crisis?

Experts say that most people become conscious of the slowing down of the biological process of their bodies by approximately at age 40 and the awareness is perceived to be introducing the progression of aging, which gives more emphasis on the visibility of one reality: old age. And aging is almost akin to degeneration, weakness and loss of opportunities only our youthful years can provide.

The term Midlife Crisis was coined by Canadian Psychologist Elliot Jacques in his article Death and the Midlife Crisis for the International Journal of Psychoanalysis. Midlife Crisis, according to him, referred to a time when adults realize their own mortality and how much time they may have left in their lives.

Carl Gustav Jung, renowned Swiss Psychiatrist, Founder of Analytical Psychology, and pioneer in the study of Midlife, compared midlife to noon in the daily course of the sun saying further that it is around the noon of life, which he saw as commencing between the 35th and 40th years, that a momentous transformation in the human psyche is most likely to occur.

However, according to the article of Robert Atkinson, Ph.D. entitled Midlife: The Crisis, Reconsidered: Today 40 no longer seems to hold the symbolic significance that it once had. People often do not feel the impact of having lived half their lives until the mid-or late 40s, or even age 50-if indeed at all.

This may be due to the longevity factor. Briefly, people now live longer-averaging 25 years longer than at the start of the century and lead more prolific and richer lives made possible by positive prospects in careers, improved health and more gratifying relationships.

According to some studies, an average healthy adult today could reach about 120 years old thus making midlife at 60.

Knowing When the Time Has Come

In women, premenopausal symptoms, the prospect of the empty nest syndrome, the economy, stress and anxieties can be triggers. In men, retirement, career change, andropause, marital disputes, financial issues and any major change can activate a sense of discontent and loss of purpose.

My husbands mild stroke almost 2 years ago, the betrayal of a person we treated like family, and the changes our children are going through were my major wake up calls for me

A search for meaning often comes in mid-life, or after a traumatic life event. Such an episode can be hard and painful, but it can also be a catalyst to rethink meaning. Mary braid, in If in DoubtYou Can find Purpose. Psychologies, May 2006: Dossier, Finding Meaning.

You are going through the motions of Midlife crisis when you:

No longer find joy and purpose in things that used to bring pleasure;

Feel that excitement is diminishing;

Start questioning the meaning of life;

Begin reassessing your decisions in the past and feel it is so crucial to make changes;

Are not sure where life is leading you;

Feel tired with your routine and role for many years;

When you strongly seek for inner truths;

Feel trapped and empty.

However there is a population that is unmindful of such dilemma.

Atkinson states: Anthropologists have discovered that arriving at middle age does not produce psychological stress and turmoil in many cultures. And that this so called midlife crisis is more of a culture-specific phenomenon, found primarily among people in todays technologically advanced Western societies.

People in conventional cultures accepted that the life cycle comprised of stages and that getting through the periods of transition was a natural process. They did not fear the middle. They knew it would lead to a resolution. They also have clearly defined socially prescribed rituals that made it possible for them to see their way through each normal transition without confusion and within a reasonable time.

An Aunt, who is in her early eighties, shared that she has not gone through such bewilderment. No time for such foolish whim. All this stuff youre telling me is a modern day invention. For me its plain self absorption and time wasting.

After her failed marriage which left her donning the role of a single mom in the 1950s, focus was on survival. In my conservative culture, subconscious training on selflessness came in early.

This crisis may have crossed her mind but its silly to even entertain it.

In some cultures, people know what to expect at certain major points in their lives.

Dr. Atkinson continues: People in traditional cultures accepted that the life cycle comprised of stages and that getting through the times of transition was a natural process. They did not fear the middle part of the process; they knew that it would lead to a resolution. Further, they also had clearly defined, socially prescribed rituals to see their way through.

Understanding the Middle Years Dilemma

Based on Jungs theory, what we were in our first half of life represents mostly of how our environment has molded us; the handed down values, customs, beliefs, expectations, endless rules and the way of life we have been taught to accept and live up to. Jung also emphasized that unresolved issues in infancy are often not resolved reasonably until adulthood.

These are parts of the self which were withheld inside us which represent the real us, the real you that have been subdued, repressed since they were not acceptable in the first half of our life. Jung says that in order for us to be whole, we need to go through this mid transition by going inward, rediscovering the repressed and unknown parts of the authentic you and finally creating the life that will express them. When achieved, Individuation or integration of the whole self is attained.

Fluctuating hormones and other brain chemical imbalances may also play pivotal roles in creating a bit of the confusion yet Midlife is not always about crisis.

Midlife also presents opportunities for self realization which our younger years may not have made possible. Armed with experience and wisdom, one can find new meanings to living which our young minds may not have been capable of creating or even understanding.

There had been studies that divorce and suicide become common during this phase because the deficiency in or loss of meaning in what a person has accomplished becomes a powerful central theme.

FACING THE ROCKY ROAD

If you notice intense midlife telltale signs bugging and distracting you, do not brush them off. Take a pause. Fight them or deal with them with grace and take action.

Turn to people who are sincerely interested in your welfare or seek professional help for support.

As we search deeper inside and around us, clues to our new quests may show up. They may be old dreams swept under the rug, unfinished projects, passions and talents left dormant in the couch of life. There may also be new things, beliefs, and activities we never thought would interest us.

To some, midlife is the beginning of a spiritual journey as well. The thirst to prepare our going home to a place that is beyond the bounds of the material world can be one impetus in implementing change in our life Probably, it is the soul echoing to us in this shifting phase.

Real life stories shared honestly about transformations are my sources of strength. And to implement what I have learned from these inspirational sources I enrolled in a sing, dance, act (all rolled into one) workshop. Spiritual? Maybe not.

It was the impulse I had that particular Sunday morning when I opened the newspaper and an ad caught my eyes instantly. It was for a reasonable fee and was open to those aged 6 to 65 yrs old. I itched to check it out. I found it odd to join but something nudged me to take part.

I am tapping the social and artistic sides that I have ignored for so long. I will be observing where it will lead me.

Becoming a star was not my illusion. My goal was to get away from my routine, meet new people, and grow with the new experience hoping something good will come out of it. And if I feel it is not working for me, I can always opt to change course. The main substance if the exercise is to venture into something towards positive change or to better whatever it is we already have.

We are all writing the story of our life. We want to know what its about, what are its themes and which theme is on the rise. We demand of it something deeper, or richer, or more substantive. We want to know where were headed not to spoil our own ending by ruining the surprise, but we want to ensure that when the ending comes, it wont be shallow. We will have done something. We will not have squandered our time here. Po Bronsons book, What Should I Do With My Life?

Midlife is a time when we can take pride in all that we have been and done, in big and small things, giving us more chance at crafting an entirely new landscape for a more inspiring second half.

Could midlife not be be a time when we are free at last for enhancing mind, heart, and talent; free at last for spiritual growth? Anne Morrow Lindberg, Gift from the Sea.

And when not understood, Midlife Crisis can give us an excuse to go into deep depression, frustration and dissatisfaction unfavorably affecting us, the people around and those we love most.

14 Rules Of Business Referral Etiquette

One of the key roles of management is to build business through relationships. A common way to build relationships is through referrals: with, for and through banks, attorneys, employees, peers, and anyone else who has something that someone else wants or needs. The better you are at managing the referral, the better off you and those in your organization will be. Unfortunately, even though most referrals start with good intentions, theyre conducted haphazardly and dont yield the results people expect. Its often the reason that referrals are not offered. Who wants to be burned? The tips in this article should help you control the outcomes and get what you want.

Everyone has been embarrassed by their association with another person at one time or another. How about that cousin you wouldnt want anyone to know about? But what happens when the embarrassment happens in a business situation: more specifically, when you refer one person to another and one of those parties is unprofessional or just plain screws up? Making a bad connection could cost you money or something more valuable and much harder to recoupyour reputation.

We once stepped into an awkward situation when we referred a business peer, seeking a specific product, to one of our clients, who just so happened to offer that very product. We thought we were doing a good thing, a win-win-win thinguntil we received a phone call from our client explaining that the referred person made a vulgar offer to a woman on the clients staff when she said she couldnt go any lower on her price. We were shocked. Our client ended the conversation with, "I'm not sure what to do, but what he [the business peer] did was disrespectful to my staff and to you. I'm going to let you handle this." The outcome was hardly the one we were shooting for. All we could do was apologize and hope our reputation didnt take too big a hit.

The referral is part of Business 101, and its a valuable way to extend your business connections. Typical referrals involve three parties: the person who wants something, the person who has something to give, and the person who connects the two. Sounds simple and cleanbut as our bad experience shows, sometimes things get messy. So what can you do to facilitate successful referrals? That depends on which of the three roles youre playing. Here they are.

The person who wants something. If someone connects you to another party, remember to:

1.respect relationships that others have developed. Consider it your way of saying thanks to the person who made the connection.

2.stay professional and avoid being too casual or friendly. A referral ONLY opens a door of opportunity. Youre still responsible for building your own relationship.

3.conduct yourself in a way that honors the referrer. Your actions represent yourself AND the person who gave you the referral.

4.leave foul language at the door. Everyone has a different tolerance point.

5.keep ethics above board. To do so will net you a double win. To fail will curse you with a double loss at the very least. Good news travels; bad news travels faster.

6.check the ego. Don't believe that your credentials, awards, accomplishments and the referral impress everyone so much that you can leave your manners at the door.

The person who has something to give. If someone sends business your way, make sure you:

1.deliver what you promise, and promise only what you KNOW you can deliver. If you find that you cant help out, be honest about it and say thank you.

2.make good on any mistakes that occur. People understand that errors happen. Keep both of the other two parties interests in mind when taking responsibility for those errors.

3.if you want to keep the referral business pouring in, make sure you meet or exceed the expectations of the person doing the referring. Hint: theyre expecting you to make them look good.

4.never bad mouth the person who referred the business or the one providing the service. What you say will almost surely get back to them.

The person who connects the two. Before you connect one person to another, make sure you:

1.know whom youre dealing with. Only connect people who will show you in a good lightthat goes for the person who wants something as well as the one who has something to give.

2.arent connecting people for the soul purpose of getting reciprocal referrals. A client in Boston complained about giving out referrals but rarely getting them in return. Instead of expecting referrals, he learned that the real value came back to him in the form of strengthened business relationships with others.

3.kick off the transaction in a professional fashion. Whether by telephone, email, or in person, set a tone of respect by introducing each person as a respected professional.

4.butt out when you see the relationship blossom. Chalk up the connection as another success and move on.

Referral etiquette is basically pretty simple. Behave yourself, respect others, and do the right thing. Then make sure you deal only with those who do the same. The combination is a winning formula for building new business relationships and strengthening old ones.

How To Protect Your Affiliate Links From URL Trimming

You have joined your affiliate program and received your own personal referral url. You place ads for this url anywhere you can. Free ad pages, classifieds, ezines, your newsletter and website, but you dont get the response you had expected.

Now there could be a number of reasons for this, a badly constructed subject or ad text, a miss typed url or long urls breaking across 2 lines in newsletters and ezines. In the worst case, people may be cutting and pasting your links without your affiliate id.

If you are sure that your subject line and ad text are attracting the desired attention and that your urls are correctly typed and are not being broken, then affiliate id cutting could well be the problem. Id cutting is a common occurrence and can cost affiliates hundreds of dollars in lost commissions

So how do you go about protecting yourself from this? Well youll be pleased to hear that there are a number of ways that you can protect your urls. Each method has its own pros and cons as with all things.

One of the quickest and easiest methods of protecting your url, is to use a redirect service such as tinyurl.com or funu.org. These work by taking your affiliate url and replacing it with a new unrelated url. You then place the new url in your advertising material, then when someone clicks on that url they are redirected to your original page. They are extremely useful for preventing long urls from breaking across 2 lines in newsletters or ezines, as they tend to produce much shorter url lengths, typically around 12 to 20 characters long.

The benefit of using the redirect service is that there is no affiliate information contained in the redirect url that can be trimmed off. But there are 2 problems associated with them. One is that your full url is displayed in the address bar of the browser, so it is still possible for people to cut and paste the url without your affiliate ids into a new browser. The other is that you cant edit the the destination of the redirect url if you need to. For example, if you use the redirect url to place ads in ezines, and your affiliate company modifies your affiliate url for some reason, you have no way to reflect that change in the redirect url.

Another more effective way to protect your urls is to use some sort of ad tracking software. This will perform 2 important tasks, the first is that it will track the number of clicks your ad is receiving, and secondly it again gives you an unrelated url with not affiliate ids to trim. Depending on the quality of your ad tracker you may also have the ability to cloak your url, so that your affiliate url is not displayed in the address bar of the web browser.

There are many sources of ad trackers available to you on the net. You can use a remotely hosted ad tracker where you pay a monthly fee for the service or you can purchase a script and host it yourself. But which ever method you choose it pays to do a little homework first, as not every one offers the same level of service. Some will offer the ability to cloak your links and some will not, some will let you edit your tracking url and again others wont.

If you have your own web hosting then you can use my preferred method that gives you complete control over how your affiliate url is displayed. With a little bit of html you can created your own cloaked pages that will display your affiliate site, but hide your affiliate information, while still allowing you to easily change your affiliate url if you need to. Due to space constraints I cant go into details on how to do this here, so Ive set up a tutorial which you can view at the following url.

http://www.incomebuilder.bybweb.com/cloakpage.htm

While there is no infallible way to protect your affiliate links, the methods mentioned here should stop all but the most persistent url trimmers. With a little bit of creativity you can also increase the power of your personally hosted pages to include a signup box for your own mailing list. But thats another article in itself..

Advanced Nursing Degrees

There is a general feeling that nursing as a profession needs more of hands-on experience than pure academic knowledge. There is a reason or two there. We are known to laud the role of nurses who have excellent practical abilities and management supervision skills.

But apart from the too-obvious hospital care jobs, nurses have definitive roles to play in many other healthcare functions, and even in stellar roles in healthcare industry. It needs no telling that higher education in nursing is imperative for nurses to work in senior positions, many of which are suitable for none else than nurses themselves.

In practice however, there is lukewarm response among nursing students to pursue higher degrees, perhaps for reasons of convenience and cost. For example, though numbers of nurses having a BSN degree has increased during the last four decades, yet only about 44% of 2.7 million nurses currently hold a bachelors degree or higher.

Given the advent of advanced medical treatment and progressively longer lifespan of people, there is no denying that the nursing practice is set to undergo many changes in sync with technology and need. Keeping this in perspective, in October 2004, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) agreed in a resolution to support the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) as a terminal practice degree. The DNP will be different from the PhD in that while the PhD has wider acceptance as being research-focused to supplant the masters degree, the DNP is proposed to be for those nurses who want an advanced practice role, such as nurse practitioner or nurse anesthetist. However, perhaps very few schools like University of Kentucky have embarked on this new educational path to offer the DNP degree.

A brief round-up of various advanced nursing degrees is provided below:

1. RN to BSN If you commenced your career in nursing with an associate degree or a diploma, you may consider attaining your bachelors degree. Many advanced nursing positions today are increasingly looking for a minimum of bachelors degree. The good news is that a number of distance learning courses has made this a viable option for quite a few of you who are working professionals. Besides, there are flexible programs in addition to distance learning that can be suitably timed around your work schedule. In some cases, universities are known to consider your work experience toward academic credit, which means your cost and time to complete your degree reduce substantially.

2. RN to MSN and beyond Positions in higher management, clinical positions and educational institutes require a masters degree. When you pursue a masters degree, you typically learn to focus on management and / or clinical specialties and if you so choose, you may prepare to teach nursing courses upon completion. Nursing educators are much sought-after in US, so teaching can very well enhance your career to help shape the future of nursing.

3. Nurses as doctors As discussed above, the top echelon in advanced nursing degrees belongs to PhD and now the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP). In recent years, more nurses are proceeding to go for a doctorate degree in nursing, and accordingly, many institutions too are expanding their basket of course offerings to appeal to more students and also to meet this growing demand. In fact, about a dozen institutes have added a DNP program in their curriculum, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, and more plan to start in near future. A doctorate degree in nursing is helpful to teach at university level, conduct research, and even work in clinical settings or hospital management.

4. Other options Among other careers pursuable for advanced nursing degree holders while remaining in a nursing discipline, nurse practitioner and nurse anesthetist must come first. In case of nurse practitioner, it is usually an offering of masters degree, whereupon you will qualify to take the national nurse practitioner certification exam. A qualified nurse practitioner is able to diagnose and treat many common illnesses as well as to prescribe medications.

On the other hand, after attaining a masters degree, if you are interested in becoming a nurse anesthetist, you need to pass a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists) certification program. A qualified CRNA can be expected to work independently or in association with other anesthesiologists to provide anesthesia services in case of both surgical and obstetrical patients. A CRNAs work may be patient-intensive during preoperative, intra-operative and postoperative periods.

As can be seen from above discussions, there is no dearth of career opportunities for advanced nursing degree holders. In fact, as experts opine, the advancement of medical technology will continue to enrich and enhance the requirement of nursing personnel who are equipped with one or more advanced nursing degrees.

eBay Affiliate Program

Learning about the eBay affiliate program and how it functions within eBay can be time well spent toward developing an effective affiliate program.

Did you know that eBay has an affiliate program? This is sometimes overshadowed by the sheer size of eBay, but you can make affiliate income from eBay.

Here is how it works. Go to the http://affiliates.ebay.com and sign up. This will direct you to Commission Junction (www.cj.com) which handles the commissions for eBay. You should spend time on Commission Junction after you join to see all the other affiliate programs that you can join as well as eBay. You will be amazed at all the affiliate programs that are available on Commission Junction.

You will notice that you can become an affiliate of eBay in several countries. If you speak the language of another country, you can become an affiliate of that country if you desire. I am an affiliate of eBay USA, Italy, France, UK, Canada, and India. I am not active except in the US and Italy. Italy you say! No, I do not speak Italian, but I found an Italian translator through elance.com who helps me with my Google Adwords ads that drive traffic to eBay Italy. When they join and buy, I receive my commissions in US dollars through Commission Junction.

If you refer a person to eBay who is not a member and they join and purchase an item, you get referral fees and a commission on the sale. eBay recently increased its fees. These fees changes will help the smaller affiliates make more money at lower transaction volumes.

Currently, the initial fee for causing someone to join eBay is $12.00. Under the old structure, this covered the first 499 people. Then the fee rose to $16.00 each over 499.

The new structure still pays $12.00 for the first tier, but the tier is for 1 - 49. At 50 - 499 the fee is $16.00. This structure is much more favorable for the little guy.

To understand how this all works, go to eBay and study it. The fee structure is located at http://affiliates.ebay.com/revshare.

Learn about the eBay affiliate program and other affiliate programs on the Net. Affiliate programs when used correctly can make you money without having to monitor them constantly.

Good luck as an affiliate of eBay.

Why Most Independent Artist Fail!

This is a question that I am most commonly asked. The answer is pretty simple most independent artist do not understand that concept of marketing let alone online marketing.

Obviously I can not cover an entire marketing course in this article but I can however give you a few facts that will put you on the right road.

The first thing that you MUST do is learn to put yourself in the shoes of your target audience or in this case your fans. That is a lot easier said than done. Without a fan base you do not have a music career.

As a independent artist it is crucial that you own your own domain name. If you have MySpace as your primary internet presence you are making a huge mistake. Now before you go on a rant allow me to explain.

If you are using MySpace as your Internet presence you are placing your entire career in the hands of another company. Lets say that you have spent your time and effort in promoting your MySpace page and everyone knows that is where they can find you. You wake up tomorrow to realize that MySpace has decided to shut down while the getting is good. Where does that put you? Ill tell you where back at square one!

No Im not suggesting that you forget about MySpace Im just telling you it is a bad idea to have MySpace as your primary website.

MySpace should be used to drive traffic back to your domain, where you have control over your destiny.

Another common mistake that I see independent artist doing is they fail to invest in the business aspect of their careers. No I am going to guess that when you just read that last sentence you probably said to yourself, I do invest into my career. If you do not have at least one Internet Marketing book or eBook you my friend are on the wrong track.

I can pretty much bet that you have your webpage set up all wrong.

Nine out of ten independent artists websites are what I like to call, look at me websites. The harsh reality of it all is nobody knows you! When a potential fan comes to your site they have one thing on their mind and one thing only, and that is WIIFM! That stands for Whats In It For Me! They want to know what do you have to offer them why should they come to your website over the million other independent artist? This is were your marketing strategies come into play!

I know this is going to sound a little crazy but lets role play for a few minutes. Lets say that you are a country music fan (the genre doesnt matter) and you go to a website and a video pops with a young lady on it and she says, I just want to thank all of my fans, for showing up at my last concert, and I appreciate your support In fact I have two free tracks that I just posted for you online Let me show you where to go download them now. POW the video ends and you are automatically taken to a special download area exclusively for the fans!

How do you think that would make a fan feel? Do you think that someone would actually go and download the special fan tracks located is an exclusive area Your dog on right they will.

I hope that this article sparked that marketing genius that dwells deep inside of all of us. I wish you the best of luck with your music career and I hope that I have the opportunity to do a personal interview with you real soon.

Effective Contextual Advertising Methods

Refining your AdSense advertising program to cater to the needs of the most Web traffic is both an art and a science. The growth of social networking and blogging networks is encouraging people to click on advertising that is specific to their needs and behavior, and can benefit them in the long run. Contextual advertising is a fairly new advertising module that lets you launch effective ad campaigns by mining and scanning your users behavior. For example, when a user is consistently showing interest in a particular link, Web page, or subject, contextual ads can pop up that relate to that behavior specifically.

Contextual advertising has been introduced on the major search engines, including MSN, Yahoo!, and Google. Googles Gmail currently uses the concept as a banner on the top of the users Gmail account. The system looks at the most frequent keywords within an e-mail and elicits ads accordingly! Contextual advertising helps advertisers target their advertising directly to people who are more likely to click on them! This gives you, the AdSense advertiser, a higher return on investment (ROI) and better prospects for your advertising campaign in the long term.

Click-through rates and pay-per-clicks (PPC) are the key reinforcers of contextual advertising, and it is through these that you can gauge how well your site and set of ads are doing. The only way you can accurately determine what to use is by trying! Since contextual advertising programs are fairly new to the Web, there is some room for trial and error. However, because your ROI is much higher than with regular click-through and basic AdSense programs, you will likely see more effectiveness with this strategy.

Google is currently leading the way with contextual advertising techniques, tips, and tricks to increase value and search engine optimization overall. Googles fantastic search engines are market leaders in data mining and extraction, and the process is only improving each day! Microsoft is attempting its version of click-through and pay-per-click advertising with ContentAds. ContentAds allow publishers to use the MSN portal and data to create unique demographic-specific advertising with text-based advertisements. There are also extensive tools and resources available for ContentAd users.

Ad placement, combined with the best type of ad for a given subject, are your key resources for an effective AdSense program. Making use of contextual advertising methods and programs is a smart choice as more Web users begin to ignore traditional advertising methods. Contextual advertising lets you target Web traffic specifically to the users interests and past behavior; catering your AdSense program toward a contextual advertising is a smart and cost-effective strategy in the long term!

Continuing a Higher Education Online

When it comes to gaining a higher education, online opportunities are quickly becoming one of the most popular options around. If it's not the user friendly features of online learning, then it's the cost effective aspects that appeal to the average working adult. This is the person who is greatly interested in the benefits that come from a higher education, just not the rigid schedules and the pricey tuitions that tend to go with it. The benefits of online learning go beyond time and cost to offer a sense of accomplishment once the new Associate's, Bachelor's or Master's degree is in hand.

With technology consistently changing the shape of the landscape of nearly everything, the history of e-Learning has evolved and continues to evolve into great legitimacy in the world of education. While conventional classrooms still have their place, the virtual classroom is seeing more and more students each year. With the accreditation of online schools offering not only a number of degrees and qualifications, the opportunity for financial aid also makes online venues even more attractive. For some, there is just no beating the practical experience one receives in online degree programs. This is especially true when career advancement hangs in the balance.

Whether opting for a particular qualification or needing to get a general education online, prospective students will find just the right courses they need in almost every subject. For some, online education can offer a chance to either broaden horizons or narrow down career options. Selecting a variety of subjects can help define a career path when a student finds they gravitate more toward certain subjects more than others. Often, online credits are considered transferable and can help in achieving one's degree.

It is doubtful that distance learning could have ever reached the level of effectiveness that it has without the help of the internet. Though this type of learning has been in place for a great number of years, it is the information superhighway that has changed the face of education from a distance forever. Where students waited weeks and months for correspondence from distant universities, one now merely needs to take a few seconds to log on to their virtual campus to get assignments. The virtual learning environment provides not only learning tools but collaborative software featuring such options as chat, discussion boards and even audio-conferencing. This can make long distance learning seem like anything but.

The advent of computer-based testing allows for students to gauge their skills and focus attention right where they need it. This leads to another bonus in the world of online education in the form of handy online tutoring. Students will find that supplemental learning options are readily available to those who may need the extra help from time to time. Many have come to realize that the only way to get around the frustration that sometimes comes with learning new skills is understanding the material better.

Most online programs generally consist of CBT (computer-based training), WBT (web-based training), interactive media, educational animation and a whole slew of other types of educational technology. Rapidly improving technology continues to develop these features at every turn, making online learning more and more efficient. Learning management software allows students to take control of their education and organize it right down to the specifics of career planning using ePortflios.

Of all the things the internet has proven itself to be useful for, online and distance learning continue to make their appearance at the very top of the list. The ability to cut across the distances in the blink of an eye and share common information also crosses the borders of the amazing. Every new technological enhancement ensures there will be no stopping the world of continuing education.

Where Does Inertia Come From?

All objects resist being pushed around, even if there is little or no friction. Once an object is moving, it takes an equivalent amount of effort to stop it, i.e., to change that state of motion. This is a principle called inertia.

More scientifically, inertia is the principle that an object will maintain its state of motion until acted upon by unbalanced forces, i.e. two or more forces that push against the object in such a way that they do not balance out. Of course, if the forces balance out, the object is not going to change where it is currently going.

An example of balanced forces is when you are sitting inside a car that is traveling at a constant speed along a flat piece of road. The only forces acting on you at that point is the Earth pulling you down onto the seat and the seat pushing up against you. Relative to the Earth, you maintain your motion for as long as the car does not accelerate or decelerate.

Mach's Principle and Einstein's Geodesics

An interesting point about inertia is that nobody is quite sure what its origin is. We take it for granted that it's a property of objects with mass, but how does an object 'know' how it is moving, so that it can resist efforts to change that movement? Both Galileo and Newton thought that an object somehow 'knows' its movement relative to distant matter. In 1863, Ernest Mach published "Die Machanik" in which he formalized this argument of his forerunners. Einstein was greatly influenced by it. In 1918 he named it "Mach's Principle".

Einstein's general relativity took the definition of inertia a step further by showing that all objects move through a continuum called 'spacetime' along spacetime geodesics. This simply means that objects take the path of least action (effort) through spacetime, unless acted upon by forces. The matter of the Universe defines the gravitational field and the gravitational field defines the geodesic paths through spacetime.

The present scientific view is that the distant galaxies emitted virtual gravitons that traveled through space for billions of years before being absorbed by your body as you're sitting in the car. The resistance of your body to acceleration is wholly or partially due to the interaction between your body and virtual gravitons that were originally emitted billions of years ago by 'living' and long 'dead' stars in distant galaxies. Is that weird, or what?

Time-stress the Origin of Inertia?

Presently there is another view that is slightly controversial, but far less weird. It says that when you move freely in empty space, the various parts of your body all record time at the same rate. A scientist would say that 'the temporal (time) relations' between all parts of your body remain constant, or that there is no 'temporal stress' on your body.

As soon as you are being accelerated, the temporal relations are disturbed and the various parts of your body need to run at their own times. This creates temporal stress inside the body and the body's reaction is to resist this disturbance so that the stress is reduced; hence it shows inertia it wants to follow its spacetime geodesic with the minimum effort and stress.

The beauty of this hypothesis is that it only requires Einstein's rather easy to understand special theory of relativity and not the quite formidable general theory of relativity. Special relativity is mostly about how relative movement influences relative time.

Was Einstein Right?

We know that Einstein was right with his special theory of relativity. It has been proven beyond the shadow of a doubt. It may however be that Einstein was wrong on the origin of inertia. Maybe inertia has nothing to do with Mach's principle and the matter of the Universe at large, but just with what's going on within every object's temporal relations.

At a 'feet-on-the-ground' level, we are almost continually under stress from the force of gravity and hence our bodies are under constant temporal stress. Yes, the time in our heads do run faster than the time in our feet (unless we are upside down, of course). Add to this the inevitable time-stresses of modern society and it is no wonder that we are all somewhat 'stressed-out'!

How To Stage A Viral Marketing Campaign That Works

There are all sorts of ways to initiate a viral marketing campaign that brings targeted traffic straight to you, but one of the best is through the use of free ebooks.

A viral marketing ebook is something that can be distributed to numerous people with relative ease. With each new person that receives one of your free ebooks, you gain an opportunity to make a profit from your products and services or from an affiliate's products or services.

There are three major components that are necessary to creating a viral marketing campaign that works:

Wide Distribution

There are many ebook writers who charge for their creation. It's common practice. But the fact is, charging for ebooks is not the best way to achieve wide distribution. People love items that are free or discounted. By offering free ebooks, you ensure a wide distribution for your campaign. If you allow the books to be redistributed or rebranded, you practically guarantee more targeted traffic, and in turn, more profit for you.

Quality Content

The quality of your free ebooks is important. Readers aren't impressed with spelling and grammar errors. In fact, such problems may cause the reader to stop reading altogether, or worse, create distrust in the products and services that are mentioned. If the ebook isn't professional, your targeted traffic won't take you seriously.

In addition to avoiding content errors, you will also want to make sure that any affiliate links that are featured within the free ebooks are somehow relevant to the content and title of the ebooks. For example, you don't want to be discussing a subject like dog walking and then thrown in a random link for a domain registration services. It is much better to weave the affiliate link into your writing so that its appearance seems natural. Readers will respond to this much faster than they would to a high pressured and sloppy sales technique.

Maximum Return

If you want to make sure that you get the maximum return possible on your viral marketing campaign, you will need to get the rebranding balance just right in your free ebooks. The best way to do this is by making sure that the links are for your own products or for products that you have resale rights to. You can also use links that are for 2-tier affiliate programs, ensuring that you collect the second tier commission when a rebrander makes a sale.

When done properly, using a viral marketing campaign that centers around free ebooks can bring you the targeted traffic you need. You will make profit time and time again, with very little effort on your part.

Home Office Productivity Improved Using A Wireless Intercom System

One of the most frustrating things about working from home is when youre on an important phone call and the door bell rings. Then you have to decide whether to put the call on hold and make the journey to the front door for what could very well just be the neighbor girl selling cookies.

The trip to the front door really isnt the worst of it. Its the interruption to your concentration that causes a drop in your productivity. If whoever is at the door is a sales person or a pizza delivery person for a pizza you didnt order, then you may add a little anger on top of your interrupted concentration.

Once you get rid of the distraction and head back to your office, now you have to get back in the mode of concentration you were previously in. This is not always an easy task, especially if youre still angry.

One solution to this problem is to add an intercom system with a door phone to your residence. If youre building a new home, you can easily add the wires to do this before the walls are closed. Unfortunately, its much more expensive to do this for existing houses, condos, or town homes.

Thats where a wireless intercom system works nicely as long as the system is totally wireless. That means you dont have to run power or any other wires to the units at the front door or on your desk.

You also want a system that provides digital security so neighbors with similar units or cordless phones cant listen to your conversations. Many digital systems also provide quieter operation so you wont have any static noise drowning out your conversation.

The system you choose must have a waterproof outdoor wireless door intercom unit available so you can talk to whoever is at the door. If you have a larger house, or one with walls that could block the transmission signal, youll want a long range system.

Some systems even let you add a remote door lock control, which is nice if you want a delivery person to just slide a package in the front door.

By installing a wireless intercom system you can quickly run off sales people with barely a break in your concentration. That improves your productivitynot to mention lowers the stress caused by being angry for having someone make you walk all the way to the front door for nothing.
